Engine Generator Failure – Current Detection
The Situation
The alternator on a mining haul truck was operating as it normally does, every day.
Fault Detection
Alternator electrical current had climbed from 700A to 820A and vibration in the X-direction rose from 12.5mm/s to 14.5mm/s — a simultaneous elevation pointing to an electrical-related defect within the alternator.
Problem Averted
Our system alert caught the fault developing before anyone was aware of it — the early warning meant the failure did not lead to the whole machine failing. As the fault could be addressed in time.
