Motornostix installation on a kiln

 

Motornostix sensors are permanently fixed to to the kiln components in order to measure vibration, acoustic emission (AE) and temperature variations. Typical measurement locations are on the Motor Drive End and Non Drive End, Gearbox Input Drive End and Non Drive End, Gearbox Output and Pinion Drive End and Non Drive End, as well as the Motor Speed and support roller and thrust bearings. 

 Failure modes detected on kiln installations include:

  • Motor - Gearbox misalignment
  • Coupling imbalance
  • Motor and Gearbox loose foot
  • Bearing surface wear
  • Gearbox – Pinion misalignment
  • Gear surface wear
  • Sleeve bearing surface damage
  • Pinion - Girth gear surface wear
  • Support roller bearing surface damage
  • Support roller shaft damage
