Condition monitoring of extraction fans

Fans and blowers are often critical plant equipment where unscheduled downtime leads to significant production losses.  The Motornostix condition monitoring system can be successfully applied, even when the equipment is located outdoors and exposed to the elements.

The photo shows some of the Motornostix equipment installed on a large gas extraction fan, where continuous monitoring takes place of vibration on three axes and temperature on the Motor Drive End, Motor Non Drive End, Fan Drive End, Fan Non Drive End, as well as Motor Current and Speed.

Frequent failure modes on extraction fans that are detectable by Motornostix include:

  • Motor - fan alignment
  • Coupling imbalance
  • Motor loose foot
  • Fan blade imbalance
  • Bearing surface wear
